Martin Pickering | Belmez, Cordoba 2018

Martin Pickering | Belmez, Cordoba 2018 We were invited to Bélmez, Córdoba to an exhibition in a football field, arranged by Jose Ruano. On this occasion, I travelled with the Bellot family who picked me up on the way to the event. The welcome by the organizers was great. As for the field however, this was fine for the helicopters, but I had taken a 100cc Extra! Once put together, the field got smaller too, but knowing exactly how this plane fly’s, there was no turning back, and the result was spectacular, as you can see in the videos below. Other flights worth of mention were those by the great Lady 3D, Raquel Bellot with her Soxos 700 helicopter, or those of “El Pistolín” who has a unique and aggressive style. The weekend itself had quite a number of setbacks, and without getting into too much detail included car problems, temporary loss of materials or accidental damage to models after the show. Not to mention that I was full of cold and was far from my usual self, which also prevented me from taking as many photos or videos as I usually do. The result is that I only really have footage from those who I travelled to the show with… Sorry to everyone who attended, and I promise I will get you all in there next time! Sunday there wasn’t a show, so we walked up to the Bélmez castle, taking some very cool shots which you can see in the videos too! video /* Portfolio Options Configuration Goes Here*/ #gallery div{ margin-left: 0px !important; margin-right: 0px !important; padding-left: 0px !important; padding-right: 0px !important; -webkit-transform: translate3d(0,0,0); } .lg-info{ position:fixed; z-index:3; left:10px; top:10px; padding:10px; margin-right: 70px; min-width: 300px; max-width: 400px; background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.5); color:#FFF; font-size:16px; } .lg-info h4,.lg-info h3,.lg-info h2 { color: white; text-transform:uppercase; margin: 0px; font-size: 17px; line-height: 17px; max-height: 40px; overflow: hidden; } .lg-info p { color: white; margin-top: 4px; font-size: 13px; line-height: normal; max-height: 100px; overflow: auto; } /* Portfolio Options Configuration Goes Here*/ #gallery .tile:hover{ cursor: pointer !important; } /* - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -*/ /* Tile Hover Customizations */ /* Customize overlay background */ #gallery .crp-tile-inner .overlay, #gallery .tile .caption { background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.50196078431373) !important; } #gallery .crp-tile-inner.crp-details-bg .details { background-color: rgba(0,0,0,0.50196078431373) !important; } #gallery .crp-tile-inner .details h3 { color: #ffffff; text-align: center; font-size: 18px; } #gallery .crp-tile-inner .details p { color: #ffffff; text-align: center; font-size: 11px; } #gallery .crp-tile-inner .details h3 { margin-bottom: 0px; } (function($) { var tileParams = {}; if(0) { tileParams.approxTileWidth = 250; tileParams.approxTileHeight = 250; tileParams.minTileWidth = 200; } if(0) { tileParams.addBlock2Height = 80; } jQuery('#gallery').crpTiledLayer(tileParams); $( ".crp-light-gallery" ).each(function() { var id = $( this ).attr("id"); $("#" + id).lightGallery({ mode: 'slide', useCSS: true, cssEasing: 'ease', //'cubic-bezier(0.25, 0, 0.25, 1)',// easing: 'linear', //'for jquery animation',// speed: 600, addClass: '', closable: true, loop: true, auto: false, pause: 6000, escKey: true, controls: true, hideControlOnEnd: false, preload: 1, //number of preload slides. will exicute only after the current slide is fully loaded. ex:// you clicked on 4th image and if preload = 1 then 3rd slide and 5th slide will be loaded in the background after the 4th slide is fully loaded.. if preload is 2 then 2nd 3rd 5th 6th slides will be preloaded.. ... ... showAfterLoad: true, selector: null, index: false, lang: { allPhotos: 'All photos' }, counter: false, exThumbImage: false, thumbnail: true, showThumbByDefault:false, animateThumb: true, currentPagerPosition: 'middle', thumbWidth: 150, thumbMargin: 10, mobileSrc: false, mobileSrcMaxWidth: 640, swipeThreshold: 50, enableTouch: true, enableDrag: true, vimeoColor: 'CCCCCC', youtubePlayerParams: false, // See:, videoAutoplay: true, videoMaxWidth: '855px', dynamic: false, dynamicEl: [], // Callbacks el = current plugin onOpen : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately after the gallery is loaded. onSlideBefore : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately before each transition. onSlideAfter : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately after each transition. onSlideNext : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately before each "Next" transition. onSlidePrev : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately before each "Prev" transition. onBeforeClose : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately before the start of the close process. onCloseAfter : function(el) {}, // Executes immediately once lightGallery is closed. onOpenExternal : function(el, index) { if($(el).attr('data-url')) { var href = $(el).attr("data-url"); } else { var href = $("#crp-light-gallery li").eq(index).attr('data-url'); } if(href) { crp_loadHref(href,true); }else { return false; } }, // Executes immediately before each "open external" transition. onToggleInfo : function(el) { var $info = $(".lg-info"); if($info.css("opacity") == 1){ $info.fadeTo("slow",0); }else{ $info.fadeTo("slow",1); } } // Executes immediately before each "toggle info" transition. }); }); jQuery(".tile").on('click', function (event){ if(jQuery('crp-product-buy-button')) { return false; } event.preventDefault(); if(jQuery("fa") && !jQuery("zoom")) return; var tileId = jQuery(".tile-inner", jQuery(this)).attr("id"); var target = jQuery("#crp-light-gallery-item-"+tileId); target.trigger( "click" ); }); })( jQuery ); jQuery(window).load(function() {});

Fiesta de Loreto – Tenerife 2017

Fiesta de Loreto - Tenerife 2017 In 2011 I was invited to Tenerife for their Fiesta de Loreto festival, and I flew the planes of my good friend Gibson Lopez. This year, I was invited back for the show, coinciding with the year of the clubs 40th anniversary. Planning a bigger and better show than ever before, I was asked to ship my J10 to the island for the show. Upon arrival I was welcomed by the very friendly organizers, and after some good food and a nights sleep, we were off to the field to check on my J10 and get some flights done. The J10 had arrived in one piece and after a quick put together did some test flights, which despite the warm weather was still windy far from ideal for the lightweight jet. After this, I was asked to perform a few test flights on some of the club members turbine models, a task that I always enjoy doing and took up most of the day. Fine tuning two Skymaster twin turbine A10's, as well as setting up Powerbox iGyros on a Paritech Viper XXL and Bae Hawk, as well as some other minor details on other models. With everything ready for the big show, the night before (Friday) the club put on a gala dinner in Tenerife's capital city, with members enjoying the evening with family and friends until the early morning. Due to the big party the night before, the event started mid morning on Saturday, with a non stop showline of flying, mostly jets, with some helicopters, prop planes and even fireworks thrown in for fun! By mid-day, the weather turned against us and started raining, dispersing the crowds, just as the huge hog roast was served up for lunch. Unfortunately the weather didnt improve much from then on, and no more flying was done, until the Sunday, when just a few members got together to do some more flying, and continue testing their models. A great event, and my video doesnt really do it justice, but I had a great time great people, and cant wait to go back! Fiesta de Loreto – Tenerife

Salobreña – Granada 2017

Salobreña - Granada 2017 Joined by Vito from Centro Rc Levante, we headed off to the Club Rc Tropical in Salobreña, with the promise of a fun and relaxed weekend flying day, night and any time we wanted. We arrived Friday evening in the dark and pitched our tent and enjoyed a good BBQ. The following morning, we were a little surprised to find that the (not so long!) runway was surrounded by high shrubs as well as being inside a slight bowl, surrounded by power lines and even with its own mini river running along side the runway! Despite first impressions, the weekend went well with no problems in getting in or out of the site (even if I didn't have a great start to the weekend, having left the screws for my Pilot-Rc Extra back at home!) Additionally to the flights on my model (once appropriate screws had been found, thanks Micky!) the show was also the chosen location for the launch of Malaga Jets, a new shop and now dealer to Spain for Redwings Rc, producers of the Leonardo range of jets. With both an example of their 3m version and also the huge 4m version, I had a fun weekend setting up and fine tuning both models. Upon flying the larger of the two, aside from being astounded how well it flew (I want one!), after landing the club members came to congratulate me on being the fist person to fly a jet at the club! They really could have said that before taking to the air though, I may have re-measured the runway as it sure was tight! On Saturday evening, after another BBQ and the typical "I dare you to..." I also ended up flying my Extra in full darkness, only illuminated by two cars headlights! (as my plane lights were sitting in my workshop at home, along with the screws!) Forgetfulness aside, and despite the slightly uncomfortable flying site, we had a good time and got some good flying done with friends.Salobreña

Memorial Sebastian Almagro – Córdoba 2017

Memorial Sebastian Almagro - Córdoba 2017 Memorial Sebastián Almagro, the best show in Spain. This being the seventh edition of the event, held at the Faasa aerodrome at Palma del Rio, Córdoba. Like every year, we were made to feel at home. The weather was unbeatable, being lovely and warm while almost perfectly calm all weekend. Stars of the show this year were the British Reds Duo, flying identical Bae Hawks by Tomahawk Design, in perfect formation with very little distance between them. Sadly, they were the center of attention both for the great formation flying, and also for being so close that on one of the cross overs they found each other head on, resulting in the loss of both models. This year we also had the Spanish Air Force model división with us, with some great scale models. I took a whole arsenal of models, to start with I had with me two (yes two!) Extra 330Sc 107” from PilotRc (one for daytime flying and one for night flying loaded with lights and pyro). As far as jets, I also had my brilliand Composite Arf J10 and my now classic Ultimatun for high speed flying with Raúl Lozano. As always, the big boys had big toys, such as Victor Calvo and Jesús Bagüés with their huge F16 and L39 respectively. It is an event that you need to be there to see everything, however below you can see some of the best photos from the show and my video review. Next year, do as the English have started doing, take some time off and come see the show for yourself to understand the fun, the food and the great company…

Bellota Jet – Cáceres 2017

Bellota Jet - Cáceres 2017 The Bellota Jet is usually the first event of the Spanish calendar, as well as being without a doubt one of the largest events in our country. Having had all winter to prepare new models, you are guaranteed to find something new, and this year it was my turn. It was the first outing for my Composite-Arf J10 3D jet. With well over a hundred pilots, we were blessed with great weather allowing everyone to fly a number of times each day. Unusually, the wind also played ball and didn't really affect flights as it has done previously. Models are really getting bigger and bigger, with some huge planes on site such as Javier Palacio’s Tomahawk Bae Hawk 100, the twin Airworld F104 Starfighters and the Mibo A10 of Jesús Bagüés becoming the norm. I took my three best models of the moment, the fully 3d capable vector jet the J10, my awesome new Pilotrc 107” Extra 330Sc and my now well known Jets Model Factory Ultimatun, with which I was fortunate enough to receive best of show with, alongside teammate Raúl Lozano for our high speed, aggressive “formation” flying.

Memorial Sebastián Almagro – Córdoba 2016

Memorial Sebastián Almagro - Córdoba 2016 One of my favourite events of the year is the Memorial Sebastián Almagro, held in Faasa, in Palma del Río, Córdoba. This year would be no exception, taking with my a brand new PilotRc 107” Extra, with an amazing spec and of course my trusted Jets Model Factory Ultimatun. In addition, for some added fun, I also had with me my PilotRc 92” Extra. This event, held at the Faasa Aerodrome, with an 800m long runway and no real obstacles to be seen is a truly amazing place to fly, especially when flying fast jets at low altitude. The crowd are also great, really getting involved in the flights making lots of noise and enticing the pilots to really push their abilities to the max. The show-stopper this year was without a doubt Victor Calvo’s +60kg F16. Few models have the size of this one, and even fewer have the flying style and realism that this one does. One of my favourite moments this year was actually after the show, when to my surprise I was allowed to hover (only hover!) inside the hangar, the rest you can see in the video!

Ascari Race Course – Ronda 2013

ASCARI RACE COURSE – RONDA 2013 A few days ago I was fortunate enough to visit the prestigious Ascari race circuit en Ronda, Malaga with my friends Javier Izquierdo and Emilio Cánovas. The Ascari course is the largest in Spain, it is unique in many aspects, such as its location, number of curves, lack of advertising and for being one of the few places you can drive a Formula 1 car. We where able to see a little of everything, with amazing cars such as the Ascari’s, Ferraris, or the most special of all, the Formula 1 car that Schumacher won his first ever world championship with back in 1994. As well as watching the cars we where able to go round in a Radical, an unforgettable experience, while Javier and I also flew from the main straight in front of the pitts area. Javier flew his newly built Avanti’s, while I took my Ultra-Flash and Extra 330SC. As was to be expected, my Ultra-Flash powered by a JetCat P140RX was by far the fastest on the day, and I believe to now have the reccord for highest top speed at Ascari!

Lleida Air Show – Lleida 2016

Lleida Air Show – Lleida 2016 This year we had a new event in the calendar, the Lleida Air Show. The idea for the event was to group together some pilot frirends and have fun doing what we do best. With 30 to 35 pilots, and voluntary 5 minute slots everyone could fly as much or as little as they wanted. The Lleida club has a very nice runway, surprisingly wide or disproportionately short, at 130 or 140m its more tan enough to land any type of model in, but with tres on either side did require some extra attention when flying fast jets in low altitude. Marc Sánchez led the event and did a great job, with help from his father Xavi and flight director Ton Robinat who was also displaying his new line or wingbags at the event. I went with Vito and Mari from CentroRcLevante, flying my Extra 330Sc 92” and Ultimatun, with Vito flying his huge Piper, Extra and helis. A fun and relaxed event, all be it rather hot!

Electric Winter – Murcia 2016

Electric Winter – Murcia 2016Each year in Murcia they hold an event for exclusively electric models, and this year the dates fit well so I could take part. We have spent a good day flying hardly making any noise… Apart from my Extras that is, that for the day where classed as electric… (they have batteries inside, so that counts, right?!) With Vito from Centro Rc Levante we represented the brand OptiPower at the event, with pretty much every size battery going! There where drone races at a rather cool circuit out back. Unfortunately chaos with the frequencies resulted in most of the races not even finishing due to interferance in the video feeds. Even so, we had a good time zooming our quads even if we did break a few props! Once the event was over, I was honoured with the prize for the most spectacular flight, so thanks to the organizers for that!!Electric Winter – Murcia 2016Cada año en Murcia se celebra un evento exclusivo de eléctricos, y este año me cuadró para poder ir. Gracias!!

Air Meeting – Barcelona 2015

Air Meeting - Barcelona 2015 Early in the year, we went to Barcelona to fly at the club Racbasa and spend a few days having a great time with good friends. Saturday was rather cold and windy but we where still able to fly in the gaps in the weather. Sunday however was a much better day and there was a lot more flying to be done. The star of the show this time was without a doubt Victor Calvo’s F104, apart from being huge, it flys surprisingly well with a very unique silhouette in the sky. Barcelona Air Meeting 2015
