Jet Power - ALEMANIA 2018 Jet Power – GERMANY 2018

Jet Power – GERMANY 2018 The worlds largest jet event, now under new management as Jet Power Event, organised by Powerbox-Systems and in a new location. Surprisingly, the event didn’t even feel like it had been moved. It felt the same, or even better, as there was one very very long marquee as opposed to two separate marquees, there was a lot more choice for food, and with large hangars and perfect runway. I was fortunate enough to be given slots to fly in the fun exhibition part of the show. We arrived on Thursday and set up Juan Antonio’s Leonardo on my Core radio for the weekend and performed a test flight.  All went perfectly and soon were ready for the show. When not flying, I was again on the Electron Retracts booth helping out my sponsor and friends. The main thing that we see at Jet Power is that everything is getting bigger, and models are getting to be absolutely huge. Many 4m size models, even 5m versions by Airworld or Tomahawk, all helped by JetCat’s constant release larger turbines, such as the one released at the event, their new P1000 turbine (yes, thats three zeros, one thousand Newtons – 100kg of thrust!)

MEMORIAL SEBASTIÁN ALMAGRO – CÓRDOBA 2018 Without a doubt one of my favorite events ever, this year made even better with Raquel. Not much needs to be said about the Cordoba event, a huge runway, great friends and a big hangar. Heaven on earth for modelers. Just watch the video and see for yourself! Poznan - Polonia 2018 Poznan – Poland 2018

Poznan – Poland 2018 A new event for us, in Poland, the largest event in the country, organized and invited by Bartosz, its held at a large abandoned airbase with a 4km long runway that was still perfect for modeling! Unfortunately the weather was not so friendly and we had strong wind as well as cold weather for all but one of the days. Bartosz had arranged for a new Pilot-RC Extra 330LX to be ready for me, even if some final tweaks and servo changes were required before flight in the strong wind was made. Still fun and in the best company. Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ9qGd79qss

Weston Park - Inglaterra 2018 Weston Park – England 2018

Weston Park – England 2018 Weston Park is now an unmissable date on the calendar, each year the show gets bigger and better. This year I had a new Pilot-RC Extra 330LX to set up and fly following the previous misshap at the previous UK show in late 2017. Juan Antonio from MalagaJets also travelled by truck (18 wheeler!) to the event in order to have me fly his 3m and 4m Leonardo jets. This year the weather was a bit hit or miss but still had a blast as always with good friends and of course lovely Raquel Bellot, resulting in me spending more time than usual at the HeliFest side of the event as well as the Weston Park side. Bring on 2019 to go and do it all over again! Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac_g8aX9uNc

Huetor Tajar - Granada 2018 Huetor Tajar – Granada 2018

Huetor Tajar – Granada 2018 I went to Huetor Tajar back in 2014 and had an absolute blast due to the small town local friendly atmosphere at the airfield, just guys wanting to fly and have fun. Unfortunately since then the event has always coincided with other events and it wasn’t until 2018 that I was able to return. Quite excited, Raquel and I set off for the show, looking forward to a repeat of my first experience at the location. On arrival the runway was as good as I remembered it, and they had even got rid of the trees at the end of the runway, so if anything it was even better. Sadly though, the wind had other plans for the weekend, and the two days were spent trying to get out of the cold, the wind, and the rain…  We still got some (windy) flying in, and had fun with friends, but still need to return and do it all again properly… Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhxUjw0Qc8Y

Curitiba y Joinville - BRASIL 2018 Curitiba & Joinville – BRASIL 2018

Curitiba & Joinville – BRASIL 2018 With thanks to Powerbox-Systems, I was invited to participate at the 33 Fesbraer event held at the great flying club in Gaspar. The planes flown were all thanks to Michel, owner of JetModelTeam.com.br and who kindly lent me his Carf-Models J10, Edge 540 and Shockwave. While there, I was also asked to fly a few members models, including Skymaster Viperjets, Futura and others, often asked to set up some aspect of the model, as well as installing and explaining the iGyro to them. The field itself was great and one that mostly any modeler has seen in videos and photos, simply a great place to fly and have fun. For the last two days, once the main event was over, we travelled over to Joinville, to spend some time with Marco Camilloti at his field, Aero Circus.  Now this is the place that aeromodellers go when they die, it is truly paradise. Gaspar was already a great place to be and fly but this was truly on a different level to anything I had ever seen, check out the pictures for yourselves and see what I mean… Huge full size runway, massive hangar with models stored ready to go, along with large rest area, barbecue and my favorite, a pool table. Only one problem, and that was that we had to leave… Can’t wait to go back though! Gaspar:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X65lE3Pd4IwJoinville:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zboBJxYu7lU

Bellota Jet – Caceres 2018 Bellota Jet – Caceres 2018

Bellota Jet – Caceres 2018 There isn’t much I haven’t already said about the Bellota Jet, it is Spains largest event of the year and is normally where you will see everyone’s new models for the first time having spent all winter working on them ready for this first date in the calendar. This year it was Raquel Bellot and I who travelled to the show, with a little bit of everything! Acrobatic model, jet and even helicopters! An awesome event as always, where as well as flying the 4m Leonardo jet of Juan Antonio, I picked up the trophy for  Best Jet Flight. Video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_y7Dir6phQU

Belmez - Cordoba 2018 Belmez – Cordoba 2018

Martin Pickering | Belmez, Cordoba 2018 We were invited to Bélmez, Córdoba to an exhibition in a football field, arranged by Jose Ruano. On this occasion, I travelled with the Bellot family who picked me up on the way to the event. The welcome by the organizers was great. As for the field however, this was fine for the helicopters, but I had taken a 100cc Extra! Once put together, the field got smaller too, but knowing exactly how this plane fly’s, there was no turning back, and the result was spectacular, as you can see in the videos below. Other flights worth of mention were those by the great Lady 3D, Raquel Bellot with her Soxos 700 helicopter, or those of “El Pistolín” who has a unique and aggressive style. The weekend itself had quite a number of setbacks, and without getting into too much detail included car problems, temporary loss of materials or accidental damage to models after the show. Not to mention that I was full of cold and was far from my usual self, which also prevented me from taking as many photos or videos as I usually do. The result is that I only really have footage from those who I travelled to the show with… Sorry to everyone who attended, and I promise I will get you all in there next time! Sunday there wasn’t a show, so we walked up to the Bélmez castle, taking some very cool shots which you can see in the videos too! video

Fiesta de Loreto – Tenerife 2017

Fiesta de Loreto - Tenerife 2017 In 2011 I was invited to Tenerife for their Fiesta de Loreto festival, and I flew the planes of my good friend Gibson Lopez. This year, I was invited back for the show, coinciding with the year of the clubs 40th anniversary. Planning a bigger and better show than ever before, I was asked to ship my J10 to the island for the show. Upon arrival I was welcomed by the very friendly organizers, and after some good food and a nights sleep, we were off to the field to check on my J10 and get some flights done. The J10 had arrived in one piece and after a quick put together did some test flights, which despite the warm weather was still windy far from ideal for the lightweight jet. After this, I was asked to perform a few test flights on some of the club members turbine models, a task that I always enjoy doing and took up most of the day. Fine tuning two Skymaster twin turbine A10's, as well as setting up Powerbox iGyros on a Paritech Viper XXL and Bae Hawk, as well as some other minor details on other models. With everything ready for the big show, the night before (Friday) the club put on a gala dinner in Tenerife's capital city, with members enjoying the evening with family and friends until the early morning. Due to the big party the night before, the event started mid morning on Saturday, with a non stop showline of flying, mostly jets, with some helicopters, prop planes and even fireworks thrown in for fun! By mid-day, the weather turned against us and started raining, dispersing the crowds, just as the huge hog roast was served up for lunch. Unfortunately the weather didnt improve much from then on, and no more flying was done, until the Sunday, when just a few members got together to do some more flying, and continue testing their models. A great event, and my video doesnt really do it justice, but I had a great time great people, and cant wait to go back! Fiesta de Loreto – Tenerife

Salobreña – Granada 2017

Salobreña - Granada 2017 Joined by Vito from Centro Rc Levante, we headed off to the Club Rc Tropical in Salobreña, with the promise of a fun and relaxed weekend flying day, night and any time we wanted. We arrived Friday evening in the dark and pitched our tent and enjoyed a good BBQ. The following morning, we were a little surprised to find that the (not so long!) runway was surrounded by high shrubs as well as being inside a slight bowl, surrounded by power lines and even with its own mini river running along side the runway! Despite first impressions, the weekend went well with no problems in getting in or out of the site (even if I didn't have a great start to the weekend, having left the screws for my Pilot-Rc Extra back at home!) Additionally to the flights on my model (once appropriate screws had been found, thanks Micky!) the show was also the chosen location for the launch of Malaga Jets, a new shop and now dealer to Spain for Redwings Rc, producers of the Leonardo range of jets. With both an example of their 3m version and also the huge 4m version, I had a fun weekend setting up and fine tuning both models. Upon flying the larger of the two, aside from being astounded how well it flew (I want one!), after landing the club members came to congratulate me on being the fist person to fly a jet at the club! They really could have said that before taking to the air though, I may have re-measured the runway as it sure was tight! On Saturday evening, after another BBQ and the typical "I dare you to..." I also ended up flying my Extra in full darkness, only illuminated by two cars headlights! (as my plane lights were sitting in my workshop at home, along with the screws!) Forgetfulness aside, and despite the slightly uncomfortable flying site, we had a good time and got some good flying done with friends.Salobreña
